A Guide to Getting Your Mailbox Locks Changed

Why would a mailbox lock need to be changed?

  1. You lost your mailbox key and don't have another copy.
  2. You have moved into a new home and know the old owner could have a key, so you're changing it just to be safe.
  3. The lock JUST STOPPED WORKING! This one is frustrating, and sadly very common. Mailbox locks are exposed to outdoor conditions constantly and break down.

It's time for a new lock right now, but what are your rights and options when it comes to your mailbox? Who can service it?

There are 2 Types of Community Mailboxes:

US Postal Service Mailbox

This type of mailbox is serviced by the government, and legally belongs to you as long as you live at that address. We can change these locks without issues.

HOA or Apartment Owned

These are still mailboxes under federal law, and cannot be tampered with unless you approve.

The postal service won't service mailboxes belonging to a Home Owners Association. It's because they were bought by an outside source, so the USPS doesn't want to be responsible for their maintenance.

Yes, we can legally service it.

Just show us an official form of identification, as well as a copy of mail to that address with your name on it, and we will service your mailbox.

Service usually takes under 20 minutes to complete.
